I bought it as a gift for Shiro Kosaka to place in his Museum. It was stolen in Tokyo with 3 more of my Abarth collection and a Lancia Aurelia. FAZA SQUADRA NEVER DROPPED OUT  OF AN ENDURO RACE.  WE ALWAYS FINISHED STRONG, BUT FOR THE 1ST ENDURO WITH THE `MARYLAND'.  THIS NAME WAS GIVEN TO THE FIRST FAZA SQUADRA FIAT ABARTH 850 TC CORSA.  FOR 4 YEARS, MY STREET FIAT 600-D FROM AUGUST 1961 UNTIL MARLBORO, MARYLAND SCCA DRIVERS SCHOOL FOR THE BOSS. THE PLAN WITH BUD PATTERSON TO GO FOR THIS 12 HOUR F. I. A. INTERNATIONAL TURISMO CHANCE WAS NOT SIMPLE.  THE BOSS HAD TO GET HIS SCHOOL LICENSE / HAVE 6 REGIONAL RACES, MUST FINISH EACH ONE BEFORE THE 12 HOUR EVENT IN AUGUST 1964.  DONE DID FOR 2 WINS, 2 SECOND PLACES [IN BETWEEN BUD WON 2 RACES], L W I BOSS HAD A 2ND AND A 3RD .....DID YOU KNOW, WE ARE COM- PETING WITH 1300 ALFAS MINI ET CETERA.  PLUS THE STARTER HOT LEAD WAS LOOSE.  SALONE IN TORINO, CARLO ABARTH MADE SURE THE TOTAL ABARTH SIMCAS WERE 63.

DRIVING TO CANADA IN THE SNOW WITH THE FAZA ABARTH SIMCA 2MILA, WAS A GUEST OF CRAIG FISHER.  AS SOON AS SLAVE GOT ON THE N. Y. TURNPIKE ACROSS THE BEAR MOUNTAIN BRIDGE THAT GOES OVER THE HUDSON RIVER, THE SNOW NEVER STOPPED.   CRAIG WANTED TO BUY THIS ABARTH SIMCA AFTER WE WENT TO MOSPORT, BECAUSE  CRAIG HAD A KEY TO THE TRACK.  THERE WAS SOME RAIN AND SNOW .....ALL CRAIG NEEDED WAS TO START CALLING A STRING OF HIS SPONSORS THE FOLLOW DAY.

 

FAZA SQUADRA ABARTH SIMCA 2MILA HAS 2 JOBS, DRIVING TO THE OFFICE IN TBRR, AND RACING.  FROM HERE' DEEP IN THE CONNECTICUT WOODS, JUST BEFORE GOING ON THE TRAILER TO THE 1964 WATKINS GLEN 500.  D PRODUCTION T V R MAX TILTON WAS LYING IN WAIT!

The 1964 Glen 500 Miler, if only Max Tilton with both his squirrelly driving and T V R number 16 DP. FAZA SQUADRA Abarth Simca 2000 Stradale was driven by Bud Patterson who had passed Tilton twice.  Bud was passing Tilton again, when Tilton moved the T V R over in the Dog Leg and hit Bud on the right front flying into the infield who hit very hard in a drainage ditch.  Bud pulled in saying, "Al, we bottomed very hard, take a look under the left rear!" How Bud finished with the left trailing arm bent, amazed S-0-M. When the race ended, Bud stopped in the pits.  His window was almost closed.  He asked to open the door .....then said, "Al please take both my hands [he had gloves curled around the Abarth wood steering wheel], from the steering wheel.  The only Campagnolo wheels that came with a 200 horse power, Abarth sent 4 1/2 inch wheels.  The Glenn was very fast, with such narrow tires and wheels, no wonder Bud had to fight the steering wheel.

HALF WAY THROUGH THE TOUR RACES, DRIVERS MAURO BIANCHI  AND PASCAL ICKX TELEPHONED THE GOOD NEWS.  CARLO ABARTH AND DOTT. THE FIRST FAZA SQUADRA ULTRA / ULTRA COMPETITION WAS A SIMILAR ABARTH SIMCA 2MILA STRADALE [2 LITER] THE 1964 USRRC F. I. A. INTERNATIONAL RACE AT MID OHIO.

LICENSE PAPER WORK WAS CLEARED TO DRIVE.  THE SAME WITH AN SCCA NATIONAL LICENSE WAS OK TO DRIVE.  JUST IN CASE RAY CUOMO SHOWS UP BEFORE THE BIG RACE, WHICH HE DID.  WE BOTH SAT IN THE ABARTH SIMCA 2000, FOR A QUICK RUN DOWN.  RAY HAD NEVER DRIVEN AN ABARTH SIMCA 2000.  THE ABARTH SIMCA 2000 TIRED RAY OUT WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GAS UP.  BY THIS TIME RAY HAD OVER LAPPED 4 PORSCHE 904S OF RYAN / CUTLER / GREGG / AND LANE.  FIVE OR 6 LAPS LATER IT STARTED TO RAIN, RAY CAME IN TO HAVE MCGEE LINE UP THE SINGLE WIPER CORRECTLY.  THE 4 PORSCHES GOT BACK ONE LAP.  AFTER THE RACE, THIS PART OWNER ASKED RAY, "DID ANY ONE PASS YOU, BECAUSE THE RUMOR WAS JUST OUT, THAT RYAN WON WITH THE 904 PORSCHE."  WITH A VERY LOUD VOICE.  RAY ANSWERED, "NO PORSCHE EVERY PAST ME!"  LIKE D. N. A!  FURTHERMORE, THE SAME YEAR, CARLO ABARTH WITH DOTT. R. AVIDANO ORGANIZED THEIR USUAL CREW TO DRIVE SOUTH INTO SICILY.  THE RACE WAS VALID FOR THE UNDER 2 LITER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.  WHERE WERE THE PORSCHE 904S?

 

THE RACE CIRCUIT WAS HELD AT ENNA ABOUT THE CENTER OF SICILY.  ING. MARIO COLUCCI DESIGNED AND HAD A PLAN TO HURRY AND PREPARE A PROTOTIPO LONG NOSE FOR FRANCO PATRIA'S ABARTH SIMCA 2 LITER LONG NOSE.  WHILE THE ORIGINAL ABARTH SIMCA 2 LITER IS HANS HERMANN'S DRIVE TO LEAD THE RACE WITH PATRIA ALONG SIDE.
